In November 2026, the exclusively-online service HBN will celebrate its first anniversary with a mini-festival of teletext art. Community member SoyuzRocket AKA Adam Hanate is hosting a birthday celebration, and invites your teletext artwork to be featured.
HBN Teksti-TV aims to recreate the experience of ’80s/’90s Finnish teletext, taking inspiration from Yle Text and other domestic services. Like the NMS Ceefax recreation project, it incorporates Python scripts that fetch RSS feeds, and runs on a teletext in-vision decoder from a Raspberry Pi.
The service also takes inspiration from Teledata, which ran on South Africa’s SABC from 1985 until some time after 2014. HBN features advertisements in the same graphical style, which you can see on the in-vision YouTube broadcast.
Your Guidelines
TL;DR – send Adam TTI files or teletext web editor links to your art
1. Your entry can be anything related to HBN’s 1 year anniversary celebrations. We will also accept general teletext artwork.
Prompts: Helsinki, retro, 1 year, cake, TV, uutisikkuna, HBN, Finland
2. We will accept these formats:
3. You can also enter as many artworks as you like, but bear in mind that they are shown at HBN’s discretion.
4. Be aware that when pages are broadcast on teletext services, the page header (row 0) and fastext labels (row 24) are overwritten, so try not to use them in your art. Here‘s a diagram of where you can find these.
5. Level 1/1.5 Teletext only for this project – no Level 2.5 (the one with the extra colours and shapes), however you can use black as a foreground colour (graphics or text) if you like.
6. You retain copyright of your work, but give permission for it to be shown on the teletext service(s) listed above (HBN Teksti-TV).
