[CLOSED] CALL FOR ENTRIES: Valentine’s Day 2026 on Yle Teksti-TV! Love Letters from Your (Teletext) Heart

Wim Dewijngaert

The festival of love has arrived, dear teletexters!

Springtime invites warmer days and the flourishing of flora and fauna, the season of “rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection and regrowth” (Wikipedia). So basically, we would like teletext artworks about anything beginning with the prefix re-. Kinda.

Flowers are blooming and birds are bursting into spontaneous renditions of my neighbour’s car alarm… or at least, that’s what the blackbird on my TV aerial likes to mimic. (Disclaimer – that’s not really me or my neighbour. Get off my lawwwnn you dang lovebirds.)

Yle Text, those perfectly perpetual protectors of the teletext arts, have very kindly offered to host this project on Finnish television once more. Follow the guidelines below to craft the loveliest of teletext artworks for broadcast – ’tis the season of love and compassion, after all.

In Finland, Valentine's Day is known as 'Friends' Day'. Back in 2022, we held a teletext project of the same name, celebrating relationships of all kinds.

Guidelines

TL;DR – send me teletext web editor links to your Valentine’s art

1. Your entry can be anything related to the festival of St Valentine. See posts tagged Valentine’s Day or look at the prompts for some inspiration. Your art can be as strongly or vaguely linked to Valentine’s Day as you wish.

Some prompts to help you: Trust and appreciation (Friends' Day), celebrating together, renewals and rebirths, growth and gratitude, the end of hibernation, nature and the outdoors, love letters and tokens, teletext Valentine's greetings &more!

2. We will accept these formats:

  • Web editor links (edit-tf and ZXNet)
  • Teletext files (TTI, EP1 etc.) from any teletext editor

3. You can also enter as many artworks as you like, but bear in mind that they are shown at Yle’s discretion.

4. Be aware that when pages are broadcast on teletext services, the page header (row 0) and fastext labels (row 24) are overwritten, so try not to use them in your art. Here‘s a diagram of where you can find these.

5. Level 1/1.5 Teletext only for this project – Yle does not support Level 2.5 (the one with the extra colours and shapes), however you can use black as a foreground colour (graphics or text) if you like.

6. No copyrighted characters, please!

If you have a question about anything at all, I’ll be happy to help. The hotline is hello [at] teletextart *dot* co _dot_ uk
