To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci‘s death in April 2019, ARD Text hosted a small teletext art exhibition as part of a wider tribute to the polymath on page 830 of their service.
After the teletext art festivals in recent years, art surrounding the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death will IMMEDIATELY once again be given a top spot on ARD Text. The artists we asked were particularly concerned with the “Mona Lisa.”
–ARD Text, 26 April 2019
Five artists submitted for the event, subtitled Mona Lisa Und Mehr (Mona Lisa And More). Dan Farrimond depicted Max Headroom as the Mona Lisa in a “mashup of pop culture icons from the 1500s and 1980s”. Prolific ex-Teletext Ltd artist Steve Horsley and Alistair Cree also created (more conventional) teletext renditions of the Mona Lisa.
Danish teletext researcher Thomas Boevith contributed 2 pieces with one depicting the Leonardo da Vinci Bridge in Oslo, and finally ARD Text’s Birte Morling provided an additional three artworks.
