The Last Ever Teletext Show (of 2023)

Byte High No Limit proudly presents the teletext exhibition to close 2023, the teasingly-titled Last Ever Teletext Show… of 2023.

On 28th December 2023, the work of 10 artists was projected onto a decommissioned Martello Tower in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

Artists were prompted to create designs relating to the calendar year 2023, with the show acting as a record of life in that 12-month period through the blocky lens of teletext.

As presenter Eduard Khil points out at the start of the video, it’s a perfect marriage of two obsolete technologies: projection and teletext, against the backdrop of a small fort originally constructed in the early 19th Century to defend the English coastline.

Due to logistical issues, the fort pictured above was used as a last-minute replacement instead of the planned Jaywick Martello Tower. But this substitute put in a sterling performance for the team, exhibiting a public display the likes of which Clacton has scarcely witnessed since 1804, Jeff.
