Sé-bastieeeen!* Angine de Poitrine, those limber polka-dotted math-surf-jazz rock wizards from an unpronounceable solar system, have recently crash landed on Planet Teletext.
Documenting this in the form of a new teletext art exhibition are the fantastic Cheap Thrills Montreal, fittingly enough an oldskool record store in the aliens’ adoptive home province of Quebec.
Though it arrives just in time for Halloween, there’s nothing particularly frightening about Angine de la Vitrine, except maybe the hauntological element of this obscure televisual format rising from its pixellated Lego-block grave for the umpteenth time.
Actually, “Angina of the Shop Window” also sounds a bit ominous to an outsider. Alright then, it’s unofficially a Spooktober special, but after that it reverts back to a ‘normal’ exhibition like those orange Mr Kipling French Fancies that lose their Halloween packaging after October.
The exhibition continues until 10 January 2027, featuring teletext portraits and album covers – old and new – of musical artists other than Angine (but don’t tell them that part). There’s a lot of Pink Floyd in there because they’re also aliens(?).
So if you’re in the area, please drop in to Cheap Thrills Montreal see my teletext artworks at the address and times below. You don’t need tickets and can browse the vinyl racks while waiting for the subpages to change. Thank you!
