A talented all-round textmode artist, Olsson’s installations and digital design were at once witty and charming. His cheery teletext collaborations will be fondly remembered.
A prolific ANSI designer under the pseudonym bym (Big Yellow Man), he crossed over into teletext to host a workshop based on the Swedish royal wedding (För Text-TV, i tiden) in 2010. The event also involved a sewing workshop at Lava in Malmö, where participants could “create their own low-resolution memories” and connect to “older folk traditions such as cross-stitch embroidery.”
He followed this up with a handful of spectacular entries for the inaugural International Teletext Art Festival in 2012, each of them rich in detail and expertly-crafted. He collaborated with coder and teletext researcher Fred Cambus on two pieces, depicting one daytime and one night time road scene.
On the 10th anniversary of his passing in December 2024, four of his artworks were featured in the Teletext Community Advent Calendar shown on Yle Text, a tribute to his time as a teletexter.
